How to map social isolation?
This research aims to analyze the geographical distribution of settlement services in Metro Vancouver and evaluate how these align with the settlement patterns of East Asian immigrants. Specifically, we will focus on provincially sponsored settlement service providers under the WelcomeBC program, which is designed to assist newcomers in adapting to their new life in British Columbia. The settlement services include job search help, language classes, accessing community and government services, and understanding local culture and rights. Typically provided by community organizations, these services are often free, confidential, and available in multiple languages, but eligibility may vary depending on individual circumstances and the type of support required. In this project we will be only focusing on the geographical locations of WelcomeBC settlement service providers within the Metro Vancouver Area to determine whether social isolation exists.
